As an Accounting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial records for inmates. Your duties will involve keeping track of all transactions, responding to inquiries, and resolving any discrepancies. You will also be responsible for preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate records on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Other important tasks include making routine adjustments to accounts, preparing trial balances, and posting entries to ledgers. Your role will be essential in ensuring the financial records are accurate and organized for the department.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary:   Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
