Accounting Manager

Pay Rate:  Starting at $80,000/year

Reports To: Chief Administrative Office (CAO)

Backup: Staff Accountant

Direct Reports:  Yes

Position Overview:

We are a privately owned food manufacturing organization looking to expand our Accounting & Finance team. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this position will oversee the Accounting Team and collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Production, and Purchasing teams. This role will initially have one direct report, with the potential to grow the team as the company expands. Our company engages an external CPA firm to assist with monthly reporting, supported by a fractional CFO and Assistant Controller.

Responsibilities, Skills, and Experience:

Accounting Management

• Oversee and manage general accounting functions, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and the general ledger.
• Supervise weekly vendor payment runs and maintain weekly cash projections.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Implement and maintain a system of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Review and/or prepare month-end reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
• Provide monthly reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer.
• Prepare monthly journal entries to record items such as prepaid insurance amortization, capital lease interest expense, depreciation, and amortization.
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts.

Cost Accounting and Inventory

• Maintain the cost accounting system and related processes.
• Ensure losses due to inventory spills, spoilage, and other events are accurately captured and reported.
• Compile pricing workbooks for new products and quarterly re-pricing.
• Maintain integration of OrderTime (inventory system) and QBO to ensure data accuracy.

Cash Management and Reporting

• Monitor and report daily cash transactions for operating and payroll bank accounts.
• Assist in developing the annual budget and report monthly performance to the management team.
• Develop and monitor business performance metrics.

Collaboration and Support

• Serve as onsite accounting support for operations teams and participate in weekly management meetings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, purchasing, and sales, to gather and analyze financial data.
• Represent the finance and accounting group in meetings with purchasing, operations, and other functional areas of the business.
• Report relevant data to the outsourced Assistant Controller/CFO.

Team Management

• Supervise the Accounting Team to ensure consistent adherence to policies and procedures.
• Prepare weekly check runs and daily customer invoicing.
• Follow up on past due customer receivable balances.
• Resolve vendor and customer invoice queries and other accounting discrepancies.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (8+ years of experience in lieu of a degree).
• 3-5 years of full-charge accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience in accounting and cost accounting within the manufacturing industry.
• Management experience.
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in accounting software.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with financial reporting and analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (advanced level preferred).

Other Duties:

• Follow food safety and quality protocols.
• Follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), housekeeping and safe work practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
