The Associate Director of Development, Southeast and Latin America , (ADOD) is responsible for engaging current and cultivating prospective donors in the case for support of Georgetown University and in the pursuit of Georgetown's campaign Called to Be . Reporting to the Senior Director of Regional Development for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions, the ADOD is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, and actively managing a portfolio of approximately 100-150 major gift and planned giving prospects and is expected to travel at least five days per month in order to meaningfully engage and cultivate a community of support. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with annual metrics, make a minimum of 120-140 visits annually with current and prospective donors who are undergraduate alumni, current and former parents, and friends, having an annual goal of raising $500,000 or more as the portfolio matures and comfortably asking for five-, six- and, in time, seven-figure gifts.
  • Play a critical role in two key areas of fundraising work: building a pipeline of philanthropic support for Georgetown University in the regions as defined, and ensuring a thoughtful and strategic regional market management approach, specifically in Florida and Latin America.
  • Work closely with Development colleagues and partners across campus on specific event planning and execution, principal visits and deployments, and seamless management of prospects that might reside elsewhere for part of the year, thus are constituents who have multiple interests and connection points.
  • Act as a collaborative thought partner willing to approach their work with a team-first mentality.




Work Interactions


The Associate Director works closely with university leadership, select faculty, high-level volunteer leaders and board members, and the Advancement Donor Relations, Campaign, and Stewardship teams to design high-level donor experiences. The Associate Director must be able to work independently in their outreach to potential donors while also maintaining a sense of collegiality with fellow staff in the Office of Advancement. In addition to the responsibilities related to portfolio work and market management, this position will also have a focus on co-leading a regional philanthropic council, focused on engaging and advancing the mission of the institution and Georgetown's capital campaign. The ADOD is a generalist representing all areas of Georgetown University's campuses and the Called To Be campaign. S/he is expected to be nimble and donor-centric, educated in the content across the many academic units, programs, and initiatives. The portfolio and donor base this position will routinely interact with will undoubtedly have many points of interest and potential for philanthropic partnerships.



Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in major gifts fundraising, ideally in higher education institutions, with demonstrable success securing five and low six-figure major gifts
  • A desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University and the Office of Advancement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal interaction skills including the ability to exchange and interpret information requiring understanding to influence others
  • Strong negotiating and marketing skills with the ability to give significant attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of constituents, including donors, board members and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, faculty, administrators and internal colleagues
  • Strong computer skills required including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and Salesforce.com GU360 constituent relationship management system
  • A demonstrated track record of success in meeting gift goals with the ability to effectively collaborate with others
  • Experience fundraising for higher education institutions and with planned giving along with an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset preferred

Pay Range:


The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54,616.00 - $100,493.33


Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
