Extruder Operator Job Description

The purpose of this position is to operate a Twin Screw Extruder, mostly through a touch screen HMI, to produce a polypropylene/paper pellet.

The Extruder Operator will report to the Plant Manager.

Essential Functions

• Monitoring raw polypropylene, raw finely ground paper pulp, and a raw additive within the feed hoppers. 
• The operator must communicate with the MAPKA operator
• The Extruder operator must operate an Auto Loader to fill two polypropylene silos located outside. 
• Filling the additive feed hopper by hand using a scoop. 
• Monitoring the indoor MAPKA pellet bin and the MAPKA pellet silo
• Collect QC samples when required.
•  Process operation recording.
•  Maintain clean/organized work area free of all foreign debris.
•  Operate fork truck.

Competencies

• Problem Solving. The main problem solving required will be:
•  Fine tuning the Extruder to get an acceptable finished MAPKA pellet.
• Keeping throughput rates at 400kg/hr. rate.
• Decision Making. The most crucial decision making will be:
• Monitoring the levels of the MAPKA pellet Silo or the MAPKA pellet indoor bin
• Monitoring the paper feeder hopper, polypropylene feeder hopper and additive feeder hopper
• Immediate process change when out-of-spec pellets occur.
• Notifying the Plant Supervisor of mechanical issues.
• Notifying the QC Specialist of quality related concerns.

The operator performs standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Preferred Education and Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements

• No previous job knowledge is required to work in this position, though having worked as a MAPKA operator and/or having plastic extrusion experience would be most preferred
