Junior Business Development Analyst Location New York, NY (Midtown area) :

Paul, Weiss's Business Development (BD) team is looking for a Junior Analyst with a demonstrated interest in restructuring, distressed debt, capital markets, and/or special situations to help support our market-leading Restructuring Practice. The Junior Analyst will assist with targeted distressed and stressed market monitoring and analysis, as well as related research and reporting. Based in New York, the Junior Analyst is key member of the BD team and will assist their BD colleagues identify distressed market trends, advance actionable new and cross-selling business opportunities, and drive relationships forward.

Position Overview

This position is intended as a structured learning experience; our ‘apprenticeship' model will equip candidates with the diverse tools required to understand businesses at a granular level. The role emphasizes restructuring but incudes substantial exposure to broader transaction services, such as M&A, IPOs, capital raises and refinancings, equity rights offerings, and other strategic alternatives. The Junior Analyst will develop a close-working relationship with the restructuring partners at the firm, leading to long-term opportunities to assist and learn from market-leading attorneys.

After two years, a Junior Analyst will be prepared to undertake a rigorous career, whether they choose to remain in the legal field, or transition to banking, private equity, distressed debt, long/short equity investing, consulting, or the corporate side. This role requires interaction and collaboration with a diverse group of business professionals within the broader marketing/business development department and throughout the firm on a regular basis. The successful candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to multitask.

Essential Functions

  • Help update, maintain and monitor various existing and new prospecting trackers and tools.
  • Assist in the collection of competitive data, market and company research, and industry trends.
  • Help monitor key clients and prospects for various Restructuring partners.
  • Support the analysis team with the collection and analysis of internal and external data used to identify potential business opportunities.
  • Prepare briefings for partners in advance of meeting with key clients - creditor and debtor stakeholders - on a weekly, quarterly, and/or ad hoc basis.
  • Help Identify, analyze and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Request information from the firm's Competitive Intelligence team to help coordinate research on a range of companies, industries and trends on behalf of BD and the firm's attorneys.
  • Develop familiarity with internal systems that compliment external research.
  • Collaborate with members of Business Development to obtain an understanding of the firm's partners, practice areas and departments, clients and prospects, matters, competitors and other factors that could influence the direction of research and monitoring efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a junior analyst role at a financial institution or similar; investment banking, buyside, financial consulting, and/or restructuring experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in restructuring, leveraged finance, and/or special situations.
  • Firm grasp on introductory accounting, valuation, and capital markets principles; familiarity with basic distressed debt and bankruptcy concepts are a benefit.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships.
  • Ability maintain confidentiality.

Technology/ Software

  • A solid command of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal, Capital IQ, FactSet, S&P, Moody's etc., is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Ability to respond to calls-to-action outside of standard business hours
  • Must be available to meet deadlines that align with business demands that regularly fall outside of traditional workday hours.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

This is a hybrid role which requires in-office attendance in accordance with the schedule set forth by the department. A hybrid schedule is an essential function of this role.

Salary:

  • $65,000. Paul, Weiss offers competitive compensation and benefits packages. The firm considers a number of factors when determining compensation, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, levels of experience, competency levels and other relevant skills and qualifications.
  • Overtime work is often required, including nights and weekends.
