Your role and responsibilities In this role you will have the opportunity to be responsible for managing the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and warranty phase of applications in process industries, where variable speed drive and motor equipment packages are required. Each day, you will provide support in the late stages of project execution engineering, resolve field issues, and support the warranty phase of variable speed drive and motor systems. and articulate our commissioning and warranty processes to our customers. The work model for the role is: #LI-Remote This role is contributing to the Packaging/Motion/System Drives in the Houston, TX area. You will be mainly accountable for: • Lead Project Application and Commissioning Management: In this role you will lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for assigned variable frequency drive system projects for End Users, EPCs, and Project OEM Customers. This will include reviewing the project execution's engineering, provide input for commissioning schedules and plans, leading and executing the commissioning of all supplied equipment, as well as closing out all project final documentation after commissioning. You will also work with our service team to support the customers' needs during the warranty and maintenance phase. You will support our internal commissioning quotation process covering technical and commercial aspects of proposals. • Customer Relationships: You will establish and maintain effective customer relationships and ensure a positive customer experience throughout the pre-commissioning, commissioning, warranty and maintenance phases. • Risk Management: You will identify risks and opportunities resulting from the project execution engineering review and prescribe how to best mitigate those risks through actions in coordination with the Project Execution team. Presentation: You will prepare and deliver Customer-ready commissioning schedules and commissioning description presentations for different applications, both virtually and at Customer locations. • Commissioning: You will lead site commissioning activities and/or execute commissioning on all ABB-supplied equipment, including third-party supplied equipment consisting of ABB low and medium voltage VFDs, induction and synchronous motors, motor excitation control panels (MCP), multi-pulse VFD transformers, coolers, switchgear, synchronous bypass units (SBU), MCCs, E-houses, safe line systems, snubbers, lubrication skids, distribution transformers, and PLCs. You will execute performance testing to fulfill contractual obligations. You will finalize all commissioning documentation at the conclusion, including correcting all redlined drawings and transferring finalized documentation and notices to the involved parties. Qualifications for the role - Associate of Electrical Technology or equivalent.
- 3+ years' experience in related areas, e.g., Project Engineering, Technical Support, Application Engineering, Test Engineering, Field Service, Commissioning.
- Strong technical knowledge of medium voltage variable speed drive system equipment and applications.
- Commercial astuteness.
- USA citizenship is preferred due to government / military facility projects.
- Certification in NFPA-70E, medium voltage safety, first aid, VFD commissioning, motor commissioning, MCC commissioning, transformer commissioning, switchgear commissioning, protection relay commission, regional safety council training, TWIC card preferred.
- Willing to travel (60%).
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
