Position Summary BioSTLs Manager of Tech-Based Economic Development (TBED) drives the inclusive engagement, design, and equitable economic impact of BioSTLs ecosystem-building initiatives that grow and sustain St. Louis world-class bioscience innovation. This role will advance the goal of ensuring St. Louis thrives through its wholly inclusive, globally connected innovation economy anchored by our regions strengths in plant and life sciences.
The Manager of TBED will oversee and facilitate inclusive engagement processes for the broad, diverse, and equitable representation of cross-sector stakeholders in leadership, management, R&D, commercialization, and workforce and economic development partnerships. The Manager of TBED will also manage a distinct portfolio of comprehensive, ecosystem-building initiatives that leverage strengths across BioSTL and the St. Louis region to accelerate St. Louis growth and impact as a global technology and innovation hub that advances regional, national, and societal impact. The Manager of TBED will organize, lead, and facilitate internal and external project teams to launch, scale, and sustain these strategic initiatives. This position will report to the Vice President of Innovation Ecosystem-Building. The Manager of TBED will be a full-time, salaried position with BioSTL.
Job Responsibility As a member of the BioSTL team, the Manager of Tech-Based Economic Development oversees and facilitates the inclusive engagement strategy for the St. Louis regions bioscience sector. This includes developing and catalyzing BioSTLs stakeholder engagement processes that draw on expertise, involvement, and synergy from a wide range of partners, stakeholder groups, and communities. The Manager of TBED will also provide centralized programmatic leadership across a set of key cross-organizational, strategic initiatives designed to accelerate St. Louis role as a global bioscience hub.The Manager of Tech-Based Economic Development will also support the Vice President of Innovation Ecosystem-Building and other members of the BioSTL team on sector-wide initiatives. The position allows for varying degrees of supporting or leadership roles, commensurate with demonstrated experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Develop and execute strategies to ensure that research, commercialization, and economic and workforce development opportunities supported by BioSTLs ecosystem-building efforts are equitably available.
- Work across BioSTL, its partnership networks, and the broader ecosystem on the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of plans to remove barriers for under-served populations to fully participate in the innovation ecosystem.
- Provide programmatic leadership over BioSTLs portfolio of major place-based innovation programs (e.g. St. Louis Tech Triangle, NEURO360 Engine, and CURB Engineering Research Center).
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and collaborator in efforts to secure meaningful new investments that scale and sustain BioSTLs ecosystem-building efforts.
Required Qualifications: - Familiarity with project management of complex initiatives with a preferred focus on research, commercialization, and/or economic and workforce development projects.
- Familiarity with strategic planning and execution including gathering and leveraging information from community to inform strategic priorities and broaden participation.
- Familiarity with designing and implementing collaborations with cross-sector partners to achieve goals with a preferred focus on progress against economic impact priorities such as job creation, direct investment, and/or economic mobility.
- Familiarity with scaling and sustaining initiatives with diverse sources of funding.
- Bioscience industry and/or St. Louis innovation ecosystem experience highly preferred.
Skills: Ability to engage diverse audiences of various organizational levels; analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills; multi-stakeholder engagement and partnership leadership; strategic resource development skills; and ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to achieve goals.
