Job Description

Pay: $25 an hour, depending on experience

SUMMARY 

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, operates a dump truck or end dump as needed to transport raw materials to customers in a timely and efficient manner. Complies with all applicable safety and transportation policies and regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates a dump truck to provide sand and rock to customers.
  • Operates a dump truck to load and unload material at customer job sites using safety precautions.
  • Inspects, cleans and services truck and trailer on a daily basis, including oil levels, fuel levels and tire pressures. Performs lubrication, oil and filter changes, tire repairs and related services as needed
  • Records required data regarding material deliveries and prepares associated paperwork.
  • Places tarps on truckloads of material and takes the tarps off as appropriate.
  • Attends safety meetings and complies with safety laws and regulations.
  • Notifies Customer Service Representative--who dispatches trucks--of job status as appropriate.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Three to six months’ previous experience operating dump trucks and/or other related mobile equipment preferred but not required.

Ability to operate a dump truck effectively and safely as prescribed by state law. Must have possession of a current and valid Class A or B commercial drivers license. Ability to read and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Ability to work on a relatively independent basis. Knowledge of and ability to drive a tractor-trailer in compliance with DOT, state and all other applicable safety rules and regulations.

Ability to safely and effectively operate a manual transmission, brakes, clutch, gas pedal, dump bed on a trailer, truck radio and related equipment.

Work requires walking, climbing into and out of trucks, bending to check fluid levels and tire pressures, sitting for long periods of time and lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposed to all weather conditions on a continual basis and to other hazards such as diesel fuel, oil, dust, heat and noise. Potential for minor and severe burns, eye injuries, back injuries, strains and bone fractures. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in recurring jarring and vibratory exposure.
