Per Mississippi State Statute 21-31-63: Any applicant for a position of any kind under civil service must be a citizen of the United States and an elector of the county in which he resides and must meet only such bona fide occupational residency requirements as may be determined by the civil service commission or the governing authority of the municipality.
Position Overview:
The Police Patrol Officer is responsible for performing general duty law enforcement work to ensure the safety and security of the community. This includes protecting life and property, preventing crime, conducting investigations, apprehending offenders, and maintaining public order. Officers enforce local, state, and federal laws and ordinances while building positive community relationships, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to the public. The role requires sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the law with fairness and professionalism. This position is classified as a Essential personnel classification for Emergency Response. This means that during an emergency response this position is required to report directly after an emergency. Essential status is defined as employees whose duties are vital to maintain basic municipal functions during an emergency.

Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with college or university coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
Advancement within the patrol classification is based on satisfactory service: progression to Patrolman 2nd Class requires a minimum of six (6) months of service in the Patrolman Recruit classification, while advancement to Patrolman 1st Class requires a minimum of six (6) months of service in the Patrolman 2nd Class classification.
Licenses of Certifications
A valid Mississippi Driver's License.
