The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst .
The Policy Analyst will work on federal and state transit and labor policy issues. Issues will include federal grants to transit agencies, state plans for the transition to zero emission transit systems, autonomous vehicles, workforce training, and labor standards. The Policy Analyst will track legislation, review regulations and conduct research on a wide variety of issues affecting workers in the mass transit, school bus and intercity bus industries, and assist in maintaining a database of transit providers in the United States and Canada.
The Policy Analyst will work in the ATU’s Legal Department. We are seeking a self-starter to bring and execute creative ideas for building stronger transit systems and member power to achieve International Union’s goals.

The Policy Analyst will initially work out of the ATU’s current headquarters office at 10000 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. The Policy Analyst position will work out of the ATU’s recently purchased building at 21 Dupont Circle, NW, Washington, DC, starting in 2026. After a probationary period, the Policy Analyst will be eligible to work from home for two days a week.
Compensation:
Starting salary will be between $100,000 and $114,000 depending on experience. ATU provides medical, dental, vision and life insurance with no employee premiums; a defined-benefit pension plan with no employee contributions; a 401(k) savings plan; and paid vacation and sick leave.

Preferred applicants will have two or more years of experience in public policy, legislation, strategic research or organizing. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree.
