Job Description:

Assist faculty and House Officers in the department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) with research endeavors by providing clinical veterinary skills for research projects within the department. This position will be required to learn and perform lab procedure, research protocols, and scientific techniques Instruction for these skills will be provided by the VCS researcher.

Research Associate 1

  • 40% -The research associate will perform basic cell culture maintenance and molecular techniques including, but not limited to protein, RNA, and DNA extraction, real-time PCR, Western blotting, cell-function assays, and ELISA. -Record results of ongoing research often based on systematic observation. May maintain a computerized database that records the results or research. May perform routine tabulation and presentation for reports/data summaries. - Provide care for scientific instruments and equipment used. - Prepare Samples for storage, submission to in-house lab or shipment to outside facilities. 40% - Assist with performing basic animal husbandry, handling, and restraint for research and study animals. - Assist with performing clinical research procedures for numerous, simultaneous research projects for various VCS specialties including but not limited to: Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Shelter Medicine, Community Practice, and Exotic Animals. -Prepares research specimens and/or samples (e.g., blood) for downstream analysis.
  • -Effectively communicate with pet owners, clinicians, and study sponsors if required by the study.
  • 10%- Assist with data management for numerous investigators and simultaneous projects for data recording. Utilize basic computer skills to appropriately log data.
  • 10%- Assist with laboratory and individual research project management which consists of inventory maintenance and equipment maintenance. -Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field

Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or related field and 2+ years of experience working in laboratory setting

Research Associate 2

  • 40%- - Perform clinical research procedures for numerous, simultaneous research projects for various VCS specialties including but not limited to: Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Shelter Medicine, Community Practice, and Exotic Animals. - Record results of ongoing research often based on systematic observation. The research associate will perform cell culture maintenance and molecular techniques including, but not limited to protein, RNA, and DNA extraction, real-time PCR, Western blotting, cell-function assays, ELISA, immunofluorescence staining, confocal microscopy, and flow cytometry.
  • 40%- - Perform clinical research procedures for numerous, simultaneous research projects for various VCS specialties including but not limited to: Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Shelter Medicine, Community Practice, and Exotic Animals. Assist with performing basic animal husbandry, handling, and restraint for research and study animals. Organize and assist with anesthesia and appropriate preparation for minor sterile surgical procedures; administer medications, assist with exams, assist with imaging diagnostics, collect and process tissue specimens and assist with animals recovery and aftercare.
  • 10%- as well as development of computerized data recording and retrieval systems. -Utilize basic computer skills to log data. May conduct routine computer analysis of research data requiring basic computer skills. Perform medical record searches and scientific literature searches. -May provides assistance preparing manuscripts
  • 10%- -Assist with laboratory and individual research project management which consists of inventory maintenance, supply purchases, equipment maintenance, and appropriate budgeting of research funds. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and 1 year of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or related field, and 2+ years of experience working in laboratory setting and working with animals

Research Associate 3

  • 40%- Independently perform the following duties: Schedule, organize, and perform clinical research procedures for numerous, simultaneous research projects for various VCS specialties including (but not limited to: Anesthesia, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Companion Animal Surgery and Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Shelter Medicine, Community Practice, and Exotic Animals. Perform basic animal husbandry skills for research and study animals. Organize and perform medical and surgical procedures including patient restraint and preparation, anesthesia, appropriate preparation for minor sterile surgical procedures, administration of medications, orthopedic and neurological exams, imaging diagnostics, collection and processing of tissue specimen.
  • 40%- Schedule, organize, and perform scientific techniques including, but not limited to: viral cell culture (on a daily basis), qPCR, DNA extraction and other molecular techniques.
  • 10%- Manage data for numerous investigators and simultaneous projects, including data collection as well as development of computerized data recording and retrieval systems. Utilize basic computer skills to formulate appropriate data logs and input systems. Perform medical record searches and scientific literature searches.
  • 10%- Manage laboratory and individual research projects by performing: inventory maintenance, supply purchases, equipment maintenance, and appropriate budgeting of research funds. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field OR bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and 2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting
