Summary:
The Warehouse Assistant I prepares, ships, and receives customer product ensuring proper documentation.  May perform the duties of Material Handler.  Ability to train and substitute leadership if the supervisor is not present.

What You'll do as a Warehouse Assistant I

• Receives Customer product through acceptance or unloading shipping container; processes all applicable documentation in an accurate manner.
• Warehouses incoming Customer product by transferring product to unprocessed storage area in a safe manner.
• Maintains an organized dock area through controlling the trailer storage area.
• Prepares product for shipment by retrieving Customer product from processed area and staging shipping area; prepares accurate shipping documentation; loads product into shipping container or transfers small packages to delivery service.
• Ensures shipment of product within shipping deadline by maintaining contact with Customer transportation personnel and with vendor and internal facility staff.
• Contributes to maintaining a safe and clean working environment by performing routine area housekeeping and reporting any unsafe conditions to facility management.
• Contributes to efficient processing operations by assisting Material Handlers as needed.
• Contributes in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP and other directives.
• Communicates in an effective manner by utilizing accepted business practices in a courteous and professional manner to provide timely and accurate responses and service oriented offers of assistance.
• Protects company confidential information by properly storing, retrieving and disseminating such information only to those authorized.

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Required:

• HS Diploma or G.E.D.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related warehouse experience.
• Prior experience operating stand-up forklift and electric pallet jack. Ability to be licensed to operate powered industrial equipment in a safe and professional manner (i.e. Forklift and/or electric pallet jack).
• Prior experience using shipping & receiving software systems.
• Requires knowledge of DOT regulations.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs – requires strength and endurance.
• Normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.
• Ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
• Requires ability to navigate through defined computer screens and STERIS Operational Data Management System. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Programs.

Preferred:

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
• Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
• Above average organizing, analyzing and a minimum of Level 2 math skills (four basic arithmetic functions in all units of measurement, decimals, ratios, rates, percentages). Can draw and interpret bar, line or pie charts. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy (Receiving Reports, Bills of Lading, etc.)
• Effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
• Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.

Pay for this opportunity is $22.90 an hour. 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
