Pay Rate: $120000 to $130000 Per Year.

Position Purpose: 

Support Veolia Water operations project sites by developing, implementing and managing capital projects. Projects can include design/build of a new facility that VWNA will operate, or design/build of additions, improvements or upgrades to existing facilities that VWNA operates. The position often requires the performance of preliminary engineering and cost estimating. It includes the management of outside engineering consultants for final detailed engineering, procurement of equipment, and the management of construction contractors for the construction phase. At times the Project Manager is also required to perform the duties of Construction Manager.

When the CPM Senior PM position is open, the PM is called upon to perform functions such as performance evaluations, monthly reports, and financial forecasting.

This position will be dedicated exclusively to the IBWC projects in the San Diego area.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages complex design and construction projects.
  • Participates in strategic planning, contract management, project scheduling, and budget control.
  • Manages and performs review and engineering analysis of conceptual and detailed design plans, engineering documents, shop drawings, specifications, contractors submittals and operations manuals to ensure that the design of the facility is cost effective to build, operate, and maintain.
  • Manages construction contractors/partners in DB contracts to assure risk management in contracts, adherence to schedules, control of project costs, facilitate activities in projects, oversee project teams.
  • Manages team resources to provide the complete design package with equipment suppliers and orders and tracks delivery and installation of major equipment.
  • Reviews the quality of supplier manuals; organizes, schedules and oversees supplier provided training.
  • Develops schedules for and tracks the submission and review of contractors' shop drawings (drawing submittal list).
  • Assists as may be required in any permitting activities associated with the project.
  • Supports the CPM Senior Project Manager(s) with client interface as necessary.
  • Assures project delivery, on schedule, on budget, and within specified technical constraints.
  • Ensures that as-built drawings capture field changes and are updated.
  • Reviews and monitors engineering and construction activities during construction and confirms appropriate reports and recommendations of design and/or construction changes to improve operability and incorporated into the project.
  • Reviews the work of others for accuracy & soundness of judgment and compliance with contract specifications.
  • Reviews and Provides start-up planning coordination and assists with start-up activities.
  • Provides assistance with coordinating and implementing engineering activities for ongoing operations.
  • Provides liaison between the plant operators and the design team.
  • Develops operability punch lists and participates in fit-out planning.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.

Qualifications



Education/Experience/Background:

  • Engineering degree. 
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferable.
  • Minimum 10 years experience, preferably varied and including engineering design and design management; project management; cost estimating; and construction management.
  • Experience needs to be water/wastewater-related.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic, preliminary engineering to develop project cost estimates.
  • Cost estimating of design/build projects.
  • Project Managements of design/build projects in support of VWNA operating sites.
  • Construction Management.
  • Basic knowledge of competing & alternative treatment technologies.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to compile, negotiate, and manage at-risk construction contracts.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop unique solutions for complex technical problems that may include the design of new systems or development of solutions having few or no precedents.
  • Consistently demonstrates leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, timely, effective, complete and easily understood written communications, reports and presentations for management, clients and the general public.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Demonstrated verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with peers, management, clients and the general public.
  • Must be proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferable.
  • PMP certification is preferable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Varies greatly depending on the work being done and the project being supported at any given time: Work environments include office locations, operating project sites, and construction sites.
  • Depending on the project needs, travel is often required on an intermittent basis and may sometimes require an extended basis.
